1.4 dioxane side effects

#WhatIsItWednesday - 1,4-DIOXANE

Did you know that one of the most harmful ingredients in your personal care and cosmetic products, that is often used as a solvent in manufacturing, isn't even listed? 1,4-Dioxane isn't listed, because it is a by product that is released over time from a process, not an ingredient.  Many cosmetic companies use a process called Ethoxylation, where a known cancer causing petrochemical, Ethylene Oxide, is added during manufacturing to make harsh chemicals like Sodium Laurel Sulfate less irritating to the skin.

Want to avoid 1,4-Dioxane?  Since it is suspected (according to the EWG) to be in 97% of hair relaxers, 57% of baby soaps and 22% of all products in Skin Deep, it is best to just avoid entirely sodium laureth sulfate, PEG compounds, and chemicals that include the endings xynol, ceteareth and oleth

1,4 Dioxane: carcinogens, kidney toxicant, neurotoxicant, respiratory toxicant, gastrointestinal toxicant
